About Minutes Matter
Minutes Matter is a UPMC community initiative encouraging people to be more prepared in the event of an emergency and providing access to basic emergency information and education.
Minutes Matter focuses on common, life-threatening emergencies, because bystanders are usually the first people at the scene of most accidents, health emergencies, natural disasters, or other crises, until trained emergency professionals arrive. The most common emergencies, where outcomes can be improved with life-saving interventions, include:
UPMC prehospital staff training the Pittsburgh Penguins staff how to apply an AED.
By providing the community with basic emergency resources and education, the initiative aims to empower community members to intervene so more lives can be saved.
In addition to basic education, Minutes Matter encourages the community to seek more formal emergency training by participating in local training courses, such as first aid, CPR, and more.
Minutes Matter first launched in January 2020, in partnership with the City of Pittsburgh.
